Urban and Town Centre

Over 80 percent of New Zealand’s population live in urban areas. It is critical to ensure that our urban environments work for us, and support a high quality of living. To a large extent urban lighting design has to work with what already exists. Good lighting design can expand the hours of use for urban spaces creating more varied lifestyle, work, transport and recreation options and enhance otherwise functional elements to a higher level of visual impact.

OUR SERVICES

Crime prevention and the reduction of light pollution are two areas that LDP are very conscious of and these factors are an important consideration when approaching all urban lighting projects.

Creating places that we want to use and that work well, and that celebrate the natural environment. The challenge is to build on and expand the positive aspects of our diverse urban areas, to ensure they are socially inclusive, economically prosperous and environmentally responsible, fulfilling the promise of sustainable development.

Papakura Town Centre

Urban Centres

Street Lighting Masterplan for the Papakura Town Centre to improve the lighting in key retail streets. Consideration had to be given to address function as well as form. Following an initial design and pilot programme on two key streets the decision was made to incorporate the design into a wider project to revitalise the Papakura Town Centre. The Council then engaged LDP in the process for the identification and design of other lighting options for feature lighting that was distinctive and reflected the Papakura context, but which also aided in lighting key spaces and places.
